FAQs
You’ll need the Waffle itself, a USB-C power adapter and cable (included) and an Apple device (iPhone or iPad) with WiFi and Bluetooth for setup via the Density Spaces app. You’ll also need access to a power outlet and a compatible mounting surface (wall, desk, monitor or shelf). Android users: you’ll need to phone a friend—Waffle setup is iOS-only for now. For detailed installation instructions, check out our Waffle Complete Installation Guide.Total cost of ownership (TCO) takes all factors into account: Cost of hardware, software, installation and maintenance. Waffle is self-installable in three minutes, removing the need for costly third-party installation. All Density sensors are powered. (We don’t believe in batteries.) That means there’s no need to swap out batteries when your Facilities team least expects it.
Each Waffle comes with a Wall Mount, mounting plate and adhesives included. You can order Under Mounts from our website for an additional charge.
Location is everything. Install it between 3.5 feet to 5 feet high, at least 1 foot above the surface it’s monitoring. Avoid placing objects in front of it—bookshelves, chairs or Steve from accounting. Keep it facing the target area with its LED and cable pointing downward. Bonus: mount it in the center of the wall, not in a corner, for maximum visibility.
You’ve got three: 1) Wall mount with adhesive (quick and tidy) 2) Wall mount with screws (more permanent) 3) Under Mount (ideal for under desks or monitors). Each option comes with its own steps, but they all follow the same basic flow: prep the mount, scan the QR code, plug in the power and use the app to configure.
Waffle uses a USB-C cable and a 5V power adapter (included for US users). A 6-foot cable gives you some wiggle room. Don’t plug it in until the app tells you to—Bluetooth will time out after 5 minutes if you jump the gun.

Waffle includes a hex key that allows you to lock the sensor securely to its mount, preventing people from removing it from the wall or disconnecting the USB-C cable. The hardware lock reduces the risk of tampering at the sensor level. But the power adapter remains accessible and can still be unplugged from the wall outlet. If this happens, the Waffle will appear as “offline” in the Spaces app. Simply reconnect the adapter to restore power—there’s no need to repeat the setup process. Waffle will automatically resume normal operation once power is restored.
Check the LED status first. If it’s flashing, try a factory reset: hold the button for 10 seconds until the LED goes red/blue. Still stuck? Email support@density.io with your sensor’s serial number – you can find it behind the mount plate.
